Parts of US Gulf Coast Face Possible Tornadoes: Weather Watch

States across the US Gulf Coast are bracing for possible tornadoes as certain parts of the region face a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms, according to the US Storm Prediction Center.

Severe thunderstorm warnings and watches have been posted for areas from Texas to Alabama. There is also a threat of flash flooding from sudden downpours.

Tornadoes swept across the Great Plains and Midwest over the weekend. Since Friday there have been 127 filtered reports of twisters, in states stretching from Iowa to Texas, the storm prediction center said. At least four people died and at least 100 more were injured in Oklahoma, according to the Associated Press.

In other weather news:

India: The heat wave will continue across East India at least through May 1 before it begins to abate, the India Meteorological Department said. Some areas have been wilting under hot weather since April 15.

China: The country is forecast to get more heavy rain in the coming days, raising concerns that early rice crops in some areas of the world’s biggest producer and consumer might get damaged.

Philippines: Parts of the country face potential disruption to electricity supplies as an intense heat wave fuels cooling demand and leaves power systems “overloaded,” according to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Europe: European natural gas prices extended a decline as milder weather is expected to return to a region still well-supplied after winter.
