The Nationwide Transportation Security Board stated on X, previously referred to as Twitter, that it had despatched a four-person workforce to do a security investigation and decide the reason for the leak about 19 miles (31 kilometers) offshore from Venice, Louisiana. The company stated the pipeline is operated by Third Coast Infrastructure LLC.

The Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, stated oil sheen was seen on water at round 9 a.m. Thursday and Third Coast Midstream Pipeline reported the leak 10 minutes later. A flight over the world at round 2 p.m. that day reported a slick that was 3 to 4 miles extensive (roughly 5.5 kilometers) “with darkish oil scattered all through,” the company stated on its web site.
